History

A San Diego Tradition

San Diego restaurateurs Fay Nakanishi, Deborah Helm and Thomas Fitzpatrick, are the trio that founded The Mission restaurants in 1995. The founders built a community landmark which has been enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. In April of 2021, the founders sold The Mission restaurants to a multi-concept restaurant group that fell in love with what the founders created. New ownership has retained management and most of its crew and is determined to continue the Mission tradition of doing well while doing good in its communities.

Despite the numerous challenges we have all faced these past two years new ownership is committed to keeping the core values and traditions alive including the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients, one of kind unique dishes, excellent customer service and to do well while doing good in our communities.

Local Artwork

Being Part Of The Community

The Mission loves to support the budding art scene in San Diego by displaying the works of local artists and allowing all proceeds to go directly to the artist. For placement consideration in one of our three locations, send an e-mail to our email at themissionsd@gmail.com with your name, phone number, and samples of your artwork.

Giving Back

Giving Back To The Community

Participating as an active and positive member of the community is very important to us. In the spirit of giving back to the community, The Mission donates to a variety of charities throughout the year such as City of San Diego Literacy Programs, Mission Beach Women’s Club, Humane Society, Planned Parenthood, Being Alive, etc. as well as annual fundraising events like Mama’s Kitchen and the San Diego Zoo’s Critters Event. We were also among one the first and continue to participate in Dining Out for Life, a fundraiser to benefit The Center’s HIV/AIDS prevention programs for Youth & Latinos and direct services for those living with HIV/AIDS.
